Our thoughts on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The Boston Beer Company, brewers of Sam Adams beer, have announced that it will not participate in this year's St. Patrick’s Day Parade because of the controversy involving a group of gay veterans marching in the parade. The issue boils down to simply one of tolerance and inclusion. While the St. Patrick's Day parade has never had openly gay participants, times are changing and our society's acceptance of discrimination against our gay brothers and sisters is thankfully finally ending. This current position taken by the Allied War Veterans Council, which sponsors the parade, is an anachronism.
We share the Boston Beer Company's hope that the organizer of this and future parades will allow all to march, regardless of sexual orientation.
